Ben Whitfield, an experienced Development Producer, has joined Yipp Films from Diverse as Head of Development. Ben will be in charge of all of Yipp’s factual development output and will work alongside Patrick Collerton to generate new projects for the company.

TRIP will screen at DokuFest in Kosovo. Festival dates are 9-13th August. After Kosovo we are heading to LA Shorts Fest for more festival fun. LA Shorts dates are 15-21st August.

A website dedicated to exploring the important and complex issues raised in The Hunger Season goes live today. The aim of the site is to enhance understanding of the arguments raised in the film and to give people the opportunity to find out more about what their own country is doing about food aid.

This year Yipp Films celebrates its 10 year anniversary. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that have helped make the company what it is today - you know who you are.
There's been too many highlights to list them all here but a constant delight has been working with some fantastic film makers and great production crew to make a host of award winning films. We look forward to many more years of ideas and creativity.

TRIP has been selected to screen at Tofifest in Poland. Festival dates are 5-11 July. The next stop is London where TRIP is in the official shortlisted selection at Rushes, Soho Shorts. Festival dates are 23rd July - 1st August. Then it's off to the US to screen at DC Shorts Film Festival in Washington. Festival date are 11-18th September.

TRIP has been selected for participation in the International Competition of the 18th Message to Man International Documentary, Short and Animated Films Festival. The Message to Man Film Festival will be held in St. Petersburg on June 15-22, 2008. Posted 23.5.2008
Yipp’s Films latest production for FIVE goes out on digital channel FIVER on Thursday 15th May at 9pm and on FIVE on Thursday 22nd of May at 11pm. This hour long documentary, part of the Hidden Lives strand, looks at love and marriage in modern Britain. It is an insight into why some people simply cannot stop walking down the aisle again and again. It is directed by Vicky Crawley and executive produced by Patrick Collerton. Posted 13.5.2008
NewcastleGateshead’s contribution to Portrait of a Nation sees the Northern Stars Young Persons’ Film Academy delivering a film making project. Backed by Tyne & Wear Museums and Tyneside Cinema 13 young filmmakers will engage with various youth groups across the region to use film to explore their roots, heritage and celebrate local identity and pride. TRIP won the Shine Award at Bradford International Film Festival at the weekend. The award honours an emerging filmmaker for producing the best short film. Judge chairman Neil Young, international consultant for BIFF, said: “Concision and economy are the hallmarks of the best short films. These qualities are skilfully combined, via particularly impressive camerawork and performances, in our winning film this year.” Posted 21.3.2008
Emily Barber has won best Factual Series at the RTS NE awards 2008 on February 23rd. It was an unanimous vote from the judges for her series of 3 Minute Wonders for C4 - I Am What I Spend. Posted 25.2.2008

Yipp Films’ feature length documentary, The Hunger Season, has been picked up by Finnish channel YLE. The film will be finished in April and will be shown in Japan, Australia and Finland - as well as on More 4 - later in the year. Posted 25.2.2008
TRIP has been selected to be screened as part of the short film programme at Britspotting 2008. The festival will take place in Berlin 10-16th April and will be touring in April and May in selected cities in Germany.

Young budding filmmakers from all over the North East of England were auditioned and although the quality of applicants were high, 17 of the most talented were selected to join this year’s Northern Stars Film Academy. Their training programme has already started and they will be meeting weekly to attend practical workshops from scriptwriting to directing and sound. They are working with lead filmmaker Andrew Coats and a selection of film professionals to make their first short films. Posted 22.1.2008
